Menin Gate

The memorial stands at the entrance to the town on the road to Menin where the ramparts once stood. Hundreds of thousands of troops marched through the entrance during the war years, many never to return. 54,896 missing soldiers with no known grave are commemorated here. Each evening, the last post is sounded in a ceremony to wish good night to the fallen.
