Moorhay Farm, in Wigley near Old Brampton, Chesterfield, is a working farm with roots tracing back to at least the 19th century. Leased by the Addy family from the Sitwell estate until the 1880s, the farm was home to Edward and Emma Addy, who worked its land until their deaths in 1882 and 1885, respectively. Known for its striking sandstone buildings, with beautifully graded stone roofs and walls sourced from nearby quarries, Moorhay Farm reflects the agricultural heritage of the Peak District’s edge. Its pastoral setting, captured in a photograph from before 1882, highlights its role as a vital part of Old Brampton’s farming community, supporting families and local trade along historic routes like the Salt Trail.
